A Phase 4 interventional study of Pitavastatin in Osteoporosis, Osteopenia, Hypercholesterolemia and Menopausal Osteoporosis, sponsored by Seoul National University Bundang Hospital. Completed at 1 site in South Korea. Open to female participants aged Up to 75 Years. Per ClinicalTrials.gov, last updated 2024-04-11.
Sponsored by Seoul National University Bundang Hospital · Phase 4, Interventional, and Prevention
This clinical trial investigates the effects of pitavastatin on bone health in postmenopausal women with osteopenia or osteoporosis and hypercholesterolemia. Given the high prevalence of osteoporosis in aging populations and the associated risks, even with existing treatments, this study addresses a critical gap in medical research. Statins, specifically HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors, are suggested to benefit bone metabolism by promoting bone formation and reducing resorption. However, the specific impact of pitavastatin on bone metabolism lacks clinical evidence.
The study's primary goal is to determine the effects of a 12-month pitavastatin regimen on bone metabolism markers in this population. This research could significantly contribute to developing more effective osteoporosis treatments for postmenopausal women, combining bone health and cholesterol management strategies.
1,675 studies on the registry are indexed under Osteoporosis; 211 are open to participants now.
This study's enrollment of 70 is below the median of 95 across 1,152 interventional studies indexed under Osteoporosis.

Ran from Apr 2019 to primary completion in Feb 2022, 34 months.
Of 56 non-industry phase 4 interventional studies under Osteoporosis, half reached primary completion within 47 months of starting (the median), counting those still running; a quarter within 31 and three quarters within 66. This study's 34 months is below that.
Counting every sponsor, half of 64 studies reached it within 46 months; a quarter within 24 and three quarters within 66.
