Registry
Inflammation — the first condition term the registry derived for this study.
ClinicalTrials.gg
Metabolic Syndrome
Why
  1. Inflammation is a broad heading, used only when no more specific condition is named.
  2. The study's listed conditions name Metabolic Syndrome.
Confidence
High: the new condition is named in the study's own listed conditions. Of 351 hand-checked studies reclassified this way, 68% were exactly right and 84% in the right disease family; the registry's first term was right for 5% (measured 2026-10-21). How we classify →

Study summary

The goal of this clinical trial is to evaluate if multi-dose fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) capsules can safely and effectively slow down biological aging and reduce chronic low-grade inflammation in adults aged 45 to 80 with metabolic neglect.

The main questions it aims to answer are:

  • Can oral FMT capsules significantly slow the biological pace of aging as measured by the DunedinPACE epigenetic clock?
  • Can FMT successfully reduce chronic systemic inflammation (measured by markers such as suPAR, IL-6, and hs-CRP)?

Researchers will compare participants receiving the active product to those receiving a matching placebo to see if the microbiome intervention improves metabolic health and cognitive function via the gut-brain axis.

Participants will:

  • Undergo a short-term preparation phase involving targeted antibiotics and standard bowel cleansing.
  • Receive an 2 initial induction doses of active product (or placebo) followed by 5 regular booster cycles administered approximately every 4 weeks.
  • Attend periodic clinical visits for physical examinations, blood draws, stool sample collection (at home), and cognitive testing using the CANTAB platform and MoCA scale.
  • Maintain a participant diary to record adverse events (AE), product administration, stool sample collection, and dietary habits.

Study arms

    MBiotix HBI Caps

MBiotix HBI Caps (FMT capsules) + Preparation antibiotics (Neomycin and Metronidazole) + Standard bowel cleansing (Macrogols). Participants receive targeted preparation antibiotics followed by bowel cleansing, and then a multi-dose regimen of fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) capsules (MBiotix HBI Caps) in an initial induction phase and subsequent booster cycles.

Procedure: Fecal microbiota transplantation delivery through oral capsules (HBI MBiotix Caps)

  • Placebo comparator
    Placebo

Placebo Capsules (matching MBiotix HBI Caps) + Antibiotics Placebo (matching two active antibiotics) + Standard bowel cleansing (Macrogols). Participants receive matching placebo treatments for both the preparation antibiotics and the oral capsules (MBiotix HBI placebo), along with the same standard bowel cleansing and multi-dose schedule (an initial induction phase and subsequent booster cycles).

Procedure: PLACEBO for Fecal microbiota delivery through oral capsules

Interventions

  • ProcedureFecal microbiota transplantation delivery through oral capsules (HBI MBiotix Caps)

Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) capsules administered in an initial induction phase followed by subsequent booster cycles. Frozen oral capsules containing full-spectrum human gut microbiota given as an initial induction (comprising a single dose on Day 7 and split daily doses on Days 9-14) following preparation, followed by intermittent 6-day booster cycles administered approximately every 4 weeks.

  • ProcedurePLACEBO for Fecal microbiota delivery through oral capsules

Placebo Capsules (Comparator): Frozen oral capsules identical in appearance, packaging, and dosing schedule to the active product, containing pharmacologically inert substances. Administered as an initial induction phase (single dose on Day 7 and split daily doses on Days 9-14) following preparation, followed by intermittent 6-day booster cycles administered approximately every 4 weeks

What researchers measure

Primary outcomes

  1. Percentage of Participants Achieving Clinical and Biological Response (Responder Rate)

The primary outcome is the proportion of participants categorized as "Responders" following multi-dose fecal microbiota transplantation (MBiotix HBI Caps) compared to placebo. A participant is classified as a Responder if they demonstrate objective physiological improvement from Baseline to Week 13 and/or Week 26, defined as meeting at least one of the following two pre-specified criteria: * Epigenetic Deceleration: A reduction of at least 5% from baseline in the DunedinPACE biological pace-of-aging algorithm. * Attenuation of Inflammaging: A reduction of at least 25% from baseline in at least one circulating systemic inflammatory marker from the predefined panel (provided the marker was significantly elevated at baseline per study inclusion criteria). Results will be reported as the percentage of participants in each treatment arm meeting this composite response definition.

Time frame: Baseline, Week 13, and Week 26

Start is estimated for Dec 2026; primary completion for Dec 2027, 12 months later.

Of 46 industry-sponsored interventional studies with no phase under Metabolic Syndrome, half reached primary completion within 18 months of starting (the median), counting those still running; a quarter within 9 and three quarters within 37. This study's planned 12 months is below that.

Counting every sponsor, half of 641 studies reached it within 20 months; a quarter within 9 and three quarters within 40.

How these figures are worked out, and which studies are left out of them.

What these dates mean
Start.
When the first participant enrolled; while estimated, when the study expects to open to recruitment.
Primary completion.
When the last participant was examined or treated to collect data for the study's main question, its primary outcome. A study that stopped early gives the date its data collection stopped.
Completion.
When the last participant's last visit took place, for every outcome, secondary ones and side effects included: the end of the study. Often later than primary completion, sometimes the same day.
Actual and Est.
Actual means the registry says the date has happened. Est. (estimated) is a date the sponsor plans or expects. It can still move, and the sponsor is expected to change it to actual once it has passed.
