An interventional study of Local Vibration and Ankle Joint Mobilization in Multiple Sclerosis, sponsored by Gaziantep Islam Science and Technology University. Not yet recruiting. Open to participants aged 18 Years to 65 Years. Per ClinicalTrials.gov, last updated 2026-10-19.
Sponsored by Gaziantep Islam Science and Technology University · Not applicable, Interventional, and Treatment
This study will investigate the effects of local vibration and ankle joint mobilization on muscle tone, proprioception, and balance in individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS). Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two treatment groups. One group will receive local vibration applied to the gastrocnemius muscle, while the other group will receive ankle joint mobilization. Both interventions will be performed three times per week for six weeks. Muscle tone, ankle joint position sense, and balance will be assessed before and after the intervention. The study aims to determine whether these interventions can improve neuromuscular and balance-related functions in individuals with MS.
3,524 studies on the registry are indexed under Multiple Sclerosis; 668 are open to participants now.
This study's planned enrollment of 60 is above the median of 50 across 2,386 interventional studies indexed under Multiple Sclerosis.

Exclusion Criteria:
Participants in this group will receive local mechanical vibration applied to the medial and lateral heads of the gastrocnemius muscle. The intervention will be performed with the participant in the prone position and the ankle in a neutral position. Local vibration will be applied continuously at a frequency of 40 Hz for 3 minutes to each head of the gastrocnemius muscle, for a total duration of 6 minutes per session. The intervention will be administered three times per week for six weeks.
Behavioral: Local Vibration
Participants in this group will receive ankle joint mobilization targeting the talocrural joint. Posterior-to-anterior talocrural mobilization will be performed according to the Maitland concept at Grade III. Participants will be positioned supine with the knee slightly flexed and the ankle in a neutral position. Mobilization will be performed for 60 seconds followed by 30 seconds of rest, for 4 sets per session. The intervention will be administered three times per week for six weeks.
Behavioral: Ankle Joint Mobilization
Local mechanical vibration applied to the medial and lateral heads of the gastrocnemius muscle at 40 Hz, 3 minutes per muscle head, three times per week for six weeks.
Grade III posterior-to-anterior talocrural joint mobilization, 60 seconds per set with 30 seconds rest, 4 sets per session, three times per week for six weeks.
Ankle Joint Position Sense Error
Ankle proprioception will be assessed using a digital goniometer. Participants will reproduce predetermined target ankle joint angles, and the absolute difference in degrees between the target angle and reproduced angle will be recorded as the joint position sense error. Lower error values indicate better proprioceptive accuracy.
Time frame: Baseline and immediately after the 6-week intervention
Muscle Mechanical Properties
Muscle mechanical properties of the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles will be assessed using the MyotonPRO device. Muscle tone, stiffness, and elasticity parameters will be recorded.
Time frame: Baseline and immediately after the 6-week intervention
Trunk Sway
Static postural control will be assessed using the Gyko inertial measurement unit sensor. Trunk sway parameters obtained from the sensor will be recorded as objective measures of balance and postural control.
Time frame: Baseline and immediately after the 6-week intervention
