Study summary

Prolonged sedentary behavior and sustained static postures in modern lifestyles induce musculoskeletal stress, restrict thoracic mobility, and impair diaphragmatic excursion, which can alter postural control, increase dyspnea perception, and affect psychological well-being even in healthy adults. Although breathing exercises are accessible, cost-effective, and non-invasive interventions known to improve ventilatory efficiency, autonomic regulation, and core stabilization, their multidimensional impacts in healthy populations remain underexplored. Most existing literature focuses on isolated outcomes or clinical cohorts.

This clinical trial aims to evaluate the comprehensive effects of structured breathing exercises (diaphragmatic breathing and thoracic expansion exercises) in healthy adults. Specifically, the study investigates changes in pain intensity, dyspnea severity, postural alignment, anxiety and depressive symptoms, and body awareness, providing empirical evidence for the role of breathing interventions in preventive physiotherapy and public health.

    Other: Exercise

Interventions

  • OtherExercise

Participants in this arm receive a structured breathing exercise program spanning 6 weeks, conducted 4 days per week with sessions lasting approximately 20 to 25 minutes in a seated or semi-seated posture. The protocol combines diaphragmatic breathing and lateral basal thoracic expansion exercises under continuous verbal and tactile feedback. Intervention Type: Behavioral (veya Other) Intervention Name: Breathing Exercise Training (Thoracic Expansion and Diaphragmatic Breathing) Intervention Description: The structured breathing exercise intervention consists of two key components performed over 6 weeks (4 sessions/week, 20-25 minutes/session): Diaphragmatic Breathing: Slow, deep nasal inspiration focusing on lateral lower rib expansion, an end-inspiratory breath hold for 2-3 seconds, and controlled expiration through pursed lips. Lateral Basal Thoracic Expansion: Performed with bilateral hand placement over the lower lateral rib cage to provide proprioceptive guidance and maximiz

What researchers measure

Primary outcomes

  1. Pain Intensity

General pain intensity was assessed using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS).

    Time frame: Baseline and 6.week

  2. Body Awareness

Body awareness was evaluated using the Body Awareness Questionnaire (BAQ).

    Time frame: Baseline and 6.week

Secondary outcomes

  1. Postural Analysis:

Postural assessment was conducted using the Corbin Posture Assessment.

    Time frame: Baseline and 6.week

  2. Anxiety and Depression

Psychological status was evaluated using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS).

    Time frame: Baseline and 6.week

  3. Dyspnea Severity

Baseline dyspnea related to activities of daily living was evaluated using the Modified Medical Research Council (mMRC) Dyspnea Scale

    Time frame: Baseline and 6.week

Ran from May 2026 to primary completion in Sep 2026, 4 months.

Of 3,016 non-industry interventional studies with no phase under Depression, half reached primary completion within 22 months of starting (the median), counting those still running; a quarter within 10 and three quarters within 43. This study's 4 months is below that.

Counting every sponsor, half of 3,112 studies reached it within 22 months; a quarter within 10 and three quarters within 43.

How these figures are worked out, and which studies are left out of them.

What these dates mean
Start.
When the first participant enrolled; while estimated, when the study expects to open to recruitment.
Primary completion.
When the last participant was examined or treated to collect data for the study's main question, its primary outcome. A study that stopped early gives the date its data collection stopped.
Completion.
When the last participant's last visit took place, for every outcome, secondary ones and side effects included: the end of the study. Often later than primary completion, sometimes the same day.
Actual and Est.
Actual means the registry says the date has happened. Est. (estimated) is a date the sponsor plans or expects. It can still move, and the sponsor is expected to change it to actual once it has passed.
