What researchers measure

Primary outcomes

  1. Change in food intake

Weight (grams) of the food consumed

    Time frame: Weeks 1, 2

  2. Change in liking

Measured on a 100-mm visual analogue scale ranging from not at all (0 mm) to extremely (100 mm). This will be used to calculate the magnitude of change in liking from before to after the meal.

Time frame: From before the test meal to after the test meal in weeks 1, 2

Secondary outcomes

  1. Change in energy intake

Energy (kcal) of the food consumed

    Time frame: Weeks 1, 2

  2. Change in water intake

    Weight (grams) of water consumed

    Time frame: Weeks 1, 2

  3. Change in meal duration

Duration of the meal in minutes

    Time frame: Weeks 1, 2

  4. Change in eating rate

Mean food intake per minute (grams/minute), calculated by dividing meal food intake by meal duration

    Time frame: Weeks 1, 2

  5. Change in sip count

The number of sips of water during the meal

    Time frame: Weeks 1, 2

  6. Change in bite count

The number of bites of food during the meal

    Time frame: Weeks 1, 2

  7. Change in bite size

Mean grams of food consumed per bite, calculated by dividing meal food intake by number of bites

    Time frame: Weeks 1, 2

  8. Change in switching between bites and sips

The number of switches between bites and sips during the meal

    Time frame: Weeks 1, 2

  9. Change in rating of thirst

Measured on a 100-mm visual analogue scale ranging from not at all thirsty (0 mm) to extremely thirsty (100 mm)

Time frame: From before the test meal to after the test meal in weeks 1, 2

  10. Change in rating of hunger

Measured on a 100-mm visual analogue scale ranging from not at all hungry (0 mm) to extremely hungry (100 mm)

Time frame: From before the test meal to after the test meal in weeks 1, 2

  11. Change in rating of nausea

Measured on a 100-mm visual analogue scale ranging from not at all nauseated (0 mm) to extremely nauseated (100 mm)

Time frame: From before the test meal to after the test meal in weeks 1, 2

  12. Change in rating of fullness

Measured on a 100-mm visual analogue scale ranging from not at all full (0 mm) to extremely full (100 mm)

Time frame: From before the test meal to after the test meal in weeks 1, 2

  13. Change in rating of prospective consumption

Measured on a 100-mm visual analogue scale ranging from nothing at all (0 mm) to a large amount (100 mm), in answer to "How much food do you think you could eat right now?".

Time frame: From before the test meal to after the test meal in weeks 1, 2

Start is estimated for Oct 2026; primary completion for Jul 2027, 8 months later.

Of 145 non-industry interventional studies with no phase under Feeding Behavior, half reached primary completion within 27 months of starting (the median), counting those still running; a quarter within 7 and three quarters within 48. This study's planned 8 months is below that.

Counting every sponsor, half of 146 studies reached it within 27 months; a quarter within 7 and three quarters within 48.

How these figures are worked out, and which studies are left out of them.

What these dates mean
Start.
When the first participant enrolled; while estimated, when the study expects to open to recruitment.
Primary completion.
When the last participant was examined or treated to collect data for the study's main question, its primary outcome. A study that stopped early gives the date its data collection stopped.
Completion.
When the last participant's last visit took place, for every outcome, secondary ones and side effects included: the end of the study. Often later than primary completion, sometimes the same day.
Actual and Est.
Actual means the registry says the date has happened. Est. (estimated) is a date the sponsor plans or expects. It can still move, and the sponsor is expected to change it to actual once it has passed.
