An interventional study of Podcast-Based Educational Intervention in Podcast, Nursing Students and Climate Change Awareness, sponsored by Gazi University. Not yet recruiting. Open to participants aged 18 Years and older, including healthy volunteers. Per ClinicalTrials.gov, last updated 2026-10-22.
Sponsored by Gazi University · Not applicable, Interventional, and Prevention
The study was designed with a parallel-group randomized controlled experimental design to determine the effects of podcast-based education on climate change awareness and climate change health literacy levels of nursing students. A podcast-based climate change awareness education will be implemented as the study's intervention. Participants in both groups will complete a pre-test. The experimental group will then receive four sessions of podcast-based climate change awareness education, while the control group will receive no intervention during this phase. After the four sessions, both groups will complete a post-test simultaneously. Subsequently, participants in the control group will receive the same four-session podcast-based educational intervention. Following completion of these sessions, both groups will complete a follow-up assessment at the same time.
Hypothesis 0-1: There is no difference in the level of climate change awareness between the experimental group receiving podcast-based education and the control group.
Hypothesis 0-2: There is no difference in the level of climate change anxiety between the experimental group receiving podcast-based education and the control group.
Hypothesis 0-3: There is no difference in the level of climate change health literacy between the experimental group receiving podcast-based education and the control group.
Nursing students will be assigned to the experimental and control groups using a stratified, simple randomization method within the strata. Gender was taken into account to ensure homogeneity between groups. Students will be divided into two strata based on gender (male and female).
To prevent selection bias, data will be collected by an independent expert, and students will be assigned to the experimental and control groups through randomization. Participant numbers will be assigned to students when the preliminary assessment data is transferred to the computer. Student group assignment will be conducted by a biostatistician independent of the study.
To prevent reporting bias, the study data will be analyzed by a biostatistician. Because the interventions will be administered by the researcher, there will be no investigator blinding.

Exclusion Criteria:
Experimental group will receive four podcast episodes over a four-week period, with one episode delivered each week.
Behavioral: Podcast-Based Educational Intervention
Participants will complete a pre-intervention assessment and receive no intervention during the initial study phase. They will complete a post-intervention assessment simultaneously with the experimeantal group. Subsequently, they will receive the same four-session podcast-based climate change awareness education and complete a further assessment simultaneously with the experimental group.
A podcast-based educational intervention for climate change awareness will be implemented in the intervention group. The podcast content will consist of four episodes covering the health impacts of climate change, accessing reliable information about climate change, climate-friendly behaviors in daily life, carbon footprint, and actions to address climate change. The content will be developed by the researchers based on guidelines from international organizations and the current scientific literature. Participants in the intervention group will receive the four podcast episodes according to the study schedule. Participants in the control group will not receive the intervention during the study period.
AWARENESS SCALE OF UNIVERSITY STUDENTS ABOUT GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE
The scale was developed by Deniz et al. (2021) to assess university students' awareness of global climate change. It consists of 21 items and four subscales. Items are rated on a five-point Likert scale (1 = Not at all aware, 5 = Fully aware). Total scores range from 21 to 105, with higher scores indicating greater awareness. No items are reverse-scored. Cronbach's alpha was 0.826 for the total scale and ranged from 0.725 to 0.876 for the subscales.
Time frame: Pre-intervention (pre-test) Immediately after the intervention (post-test) Follow-up assessment: Immediately after the control group completes the fourth podcast session.
The Climate Change Anxiety Scale
The Scale was developed by Clayton and Karazsia (2020) and adapted into Turkish by Cebeci et al. (2022). The scale consists of 13 items and has a single-factor structure in the Turkish version. Items are rated on a five-point Likert scale (1 = Never, 5 = Almost always). Total scores range from 13 to 65, with higher scores indicating greater climate change anxiety. Cronbach's alpha was 0.93 for the original scale and 0.95 for the Turkish version.
Time frame: Pre-intervention (pre-test) Immediately after the intervention (post-test) Follow-up assessment: Immediately after the control group completes the fourth podcast session.
The Climate Health Literacy Scale
The scale was developed by Nayir et al. (2025) to assess adults' climate health literacy regarding the health effects of climate change. It consists of 24 items and four subscales. Items are rated on a five-point Likert scale (1 = Strongly disagree, 5 = Strongly agree). Total scores range from 24 to 120, with higher scores indicating greater climate health literacy. No items are reverse-scored. Cronbach's alpha was 0.94 for the total scale and ranged from 0.75 to 0.93 for the subscales.
Time frame: Pre-intervention (pre-test) Immediately after the intervention (post-test) Follow-up assessment: Immediately after the control group completes the fourth podcast session.
