Study summary

This is a single-center, open-label clinical study designed to evaluate alpha-synuclein (ASYN) deposition in the brain of participants with Parkinson's disease (PD), as compared with healthy elderly (HE) participants. Up to 18 participants (12 PD, 6 HE) are planned to be enrolled. Each participant will receive a single IV injection of [¹⁸F]MK-0947 as part of Part 1A followed by PET imaging using the Investigational United Imaging NeuroEXPLORER(NX) camera or the Siemens Biograph mCT camera. If enrolled in Part 1B a second injections and PET scan may be conducted in participants with PD and HE from Part 1A.

Read the detailed description

This is a single-center, open-label clinical study to evaluate the brain uptake and pharmacokinetics of [¹⁸F]MK-0947 in participants with PD, compare to HE participants, and demonstrate the utility of [18F]MK-0947 to quantify alpha synuclein pathology in participants with PD.

Part 1A will enroll participants with PD (up to 12) and HE (up to 6) to evaluate [¹⁸F]MK-0947 in the brain of participants with PD using two different PET scanners: either standard resolution (\~5 mm) Siemens Biograph mCT PET scanner (Std PET), or an advanced high resolution (\~1.5 mm) Investigational United Imaging NeuroEXPLORER® PET scanner (NX-PET).

Safety assessments will be collected during this time. The characteristics of [¹⁸F]MK-0947 in PD will be compared to those in HE participants.

Part 1B will acquire a second [¹⁸F]MK-0947 scan from some of the PD participants (up to 12) and HE participants (up to 6) from Part 1A on the scanner they were not scanned on in Part 1A.

1 registry update since Sep 25, 2026
ElapsedEstimatedEstimated, not yet reachedSimilar studies: half by the dot; the band is the middle halfHalf of similar studies reached it by the dot; the band is the middle half, from a quarter to three quarters

Started Aug 2026 (actual). Primary completion is estimated for Sep 2027, 13 months after the start.

Of 124 industry-sponsored phase 1 interventional studies under Parkinson Disease, half reached primary completion within 10 months of starting (the median), counting those still running; a quarter within 3 and three quarters within 24. This study's planned 13 months is above that.

Counting every sponsor, half of 201 studies reached it within 20 months; a quarter within 5 and three quarters within 41.

How these figures are worked out, and which studies are left out of them.

What these dates mean
Start.
When the first participant enrolled; while estimated, when the study expects to open to recruitment.
Primary completion.
When the last participant was examined or treated to collect data for the study's main question, its primary outcome. A study that stopped early gives the date its data collection stopped.
Completion.
When the last participant's last visit took place, for every outcome, secondary ones and side effects included: the end of the study. Often later than primary completion, sometimes the same day.
Actual and Est.
Actual means the registry says the date has happened. Est. (estimated) is a date the sponsor plans or expects. It can still move, and the sponsor is expected to change it to actual once it has passed.
