Study summary

The goal of this quality improvement protocol is to compare the evaluations between video laryngoscopes (VLs) available in the University of Colorado Health Hospital at Metro Denver operating rooms (ORs).

With the feedback from survey answers collected, they will be translated into quantifiable data to easily review the VL usability and efficiency per VL device.

Read the detailed description

An evidence-based, comparative evaluation of commonly available VL systems in the UCHealth operating rooms (ORs). Building on our institution's prior QI approach for airway equipment selection (structured provider surveys, nonparametric analyses, and multi-year cost modeling), this project will

  1. quantify usability and efficiency across devices during routine OR intubations,
  2. characterize operational implications (charging, stocking, cleaning), and
  3. project a 5-year cost trajectory to inform enterprise standardization. Closing these gaps will enable a single, high-reliability VL platform (with defined blade portfolio) to streamline training, reduce setup time and errors, and optimize healthcare value.

What researchers measure

Primary outcomes

  1. Global usability rating

Likert-scale measurement (1-5) of global usability. Question is framed as: "what is your overall rating of this product?"

    Time frame: 3 months

Secondary outcomes

  1. Illumination and airway visualization

Likert-scale outcomes (1-5 scale) assessed via survey of study physicians

    Time frame: 3 months

What these dates mean
Start.
When the first participant enrolled; while estimated, when the study expects to open to recruitment.
Primary completion.
When the last participant was examined or treated to collect data for the study's main question, its primary outcome. A study that stopped early gives the date its data collection stopped.
Completion.
When the last participant's last visit took place, for every outcome, secondary ones and side effects included: the end of the study. Often later than primary completion, sometimes the same day.
Actual and Est.
Actual means the registry says the date has happened. Est. (estimated) is a date the sponsor plans or expects. It can still move, and the sponsor is expected to change it to actual once it has passed.
