Study summary

This cross-sectional study aims to compare the diagnostic performance of time-of-flight MR venography and post-contrast 3D T1-weighted MRI in the detection of dural venous sinus thrombosis.

Read the detailed description

Dural venous sinus thrombosis is an uncommon but potentially serious cerebrovascular disorder with variable clinical presentation. Imaging plays a central role in diagnosis.

This observational study will prospectively evaluate patients with suspected dural venous sinus thrombosis using both time-of-flight MR venography and post-contrast 3D T1-weighted imaging to compare their diagnostic findings for thrombosis in the major dural venous sinuses.

What researchers measure

Primary outcomes

  1. Number of patients with positive findings on TOF-MRV

Number of patients showing findings suggestive of dural venous sinus thrombosis on time-of-flight MR venography.

    Time frame: Baseline

Secondary outcomes

  1. Number of patients with positive findings on post-contrast 3D T1WI

Number of patients showing findings suggestive of dural venous sinus thrombosis on post-contrast 3D T1-weighted imaging.

    Time frame: Baseline

  2. Number of patients with complete thrombosis on TOF-MRV

Number of patients classified as complete thrombosis or occlusion on time-of-flight MR venography.

    Time frame: Baseline

  3. Number of patients with complete thrombosis on post-contrast 3D T1WI

Number of patients classified as complete thrombosis or occlusion on post-contrast 3D T1-weighted imaging.

    Time frame: Baseline

  4. Number of discordant findings

Number of patients with discordant results between time-of-flight MR venography and post-contrast 3D T1-weighted imaging.

    Time frame: Baseline
