An interventional study of Tailored Vaccine Messaging and Standard Vaccine Message in Vaccine Confidence, Adolescent Vaccination and Vaccine Uptake, sponsored by University of Utah. Not yet recruiting at 1 site in United States. Open to participants aged 18 Years and older, including healthy volunteers. Per ClinicalTrials.gov, last updated 2026-10-16.
Sponsored by University of Utah · Not applicable, Interventional, and Prevention
his study will evaluate whether tailored vaccine messaging improves vaccination-related outcomes among parents and caregivers of adolescents. Participants will complete a baseline electronic survey and will then be randomly assigned to receive either a tailored vaccine message based on insurance status or a standard vaccine message delivered by SMS text message. Approximately four weeks after receiving the intervention message, participants will complete a follow-up electronic survey assessing vaccination behaviors, vaccination intentions, vaccine confidence, perceived barriers to adolescent vaccination, and perceptions of the intervention message.
This randomized intervention study will evaluate the effectiveness of tailored vaccine messaging among parents and caregivers of adolescents. Participants will complete a baseline electronic survey assessing sociodemographic and geographic characteristics, vaccination behaviors, vaccine confidence, vaccine hesitancy, perceived barriers to vaccination, vaccine knowledge, and related vaccine perceptions.
Following completion of the baseline survey, participants will be randomized in a 1:1 ratio to receive either tailored vaccine messaging based on insurance status (public insurance/uninsured versus private insurance) or a standard vaccine message. Intervention messages will be delivered via SMS text messaging.
Approximately four weeks after intervention delivery, participants will complete a follow-up electronic survey assessing vaccination behaviors, vaccination intentions, vaccine confidence, perceived barriers to adolescent vaccination, and perceptions of the intervention message.
The study will also collect available intervention process measures, which may include successful message delivery, message receipt and/or opening when available, timing of message delivery, elapsed time between intervention delivery and follow-up survey completion, and other available messaging metadata. These measures will be used to characterize intervention implementation and participant engagement and to inform future messaging interventions.

Exclusion Criteria:
Participants will receive a vaccine message tailored according to insurance status (public insurance/uninsured versus private insurance) following completion of the baseline survey.
Behavioral: Tailored Vaccine Messaging
Participants will receive a standard vaccine message following completion of the baseline survey.
Behavioral: Standard Vaccine Message
SMS text message providing vaccine-related information and messaging tailored according to participant insurance status. Participants are randomized 1:1 to this intervention group following completion of the baseline survey.
SMS text message providing standardized vaccine-related information and messaging without tailoring based on insurance status. Intervention Assignment: Participants are randomized 1:1 to this comparison group following completion of the baseline survey.
Change in vaccination intentions
Change in participant-reported intention to obtain recommended adolescent vaccinations from baseline to four-week follow-up, comparing participants receiving tailored vaccine messaging with those receiving standard vaccine messaging.
Time frame: Baseline to approximately 4 weeks after intervention message delivery.
Change in vaccine confidence
Change in participant-reported vaccine confidence from baseline to four-week follow-up, comparing participants receiving tailored vaccine messaging with those receiving standard vaccine messaging.
Time frame: Baseline to approximately 4 weeks after intervention message delivery.
Self-reported vaccination behavior
Change in participant-reported adolescent vaccination behavior from baseline to four-week follow-up, comparing participants receiving tailored vaccine messaging with those receiving standard vaccine messaging.
Time frame: Baseline to approximately 4 weeks after intervention message delivery.
Start is estimated for Oct 2026; primary completion for Feb 2027, 4 months later.
